Family & Individual Health Insurance
for Kernersville, Winston-Salem, NC & Beyond

Blue Chip Insurance Agency, through Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® of North Carolina, offers several different types of health insurance plans for those under the age of 65 and their families.
All of them meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act, so you won’t have to worry about that.

Preferred Provider Plans (PPOs) let you see any doctor that is within the network provided by the insurance carrier without a referral. Out-of-network doctors may be covered, but at a lower rate.

Health Maintenance Organization plans (HMOs) mandate the selection of a primary care physician. It will be up to the PCP to refer you for any needed specialist appointments. HMOs generally do not offer out-of-network coverage unless it is an emergency. But, HMOs always typically cost less than other insurance plans. Blue Value℠, the HMO of Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® of North Carolina, offers you a large network with low costs.

Point Of Service plans (POSs) are between an HMO and PPO. You are required to select a PCP, but greater out-of-network coverage is generally available than under an HMO. Blue Select®, Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® of North Carolina’s POS plan, gives you a tiered plan and flexibility.

Local-Major Medical plans give you the options to see physicians and visit facilities within a local area. Blue Cross NC’s Local-Major Medical Plan, Blue Local℠ with Atrium Health, covers preventive care 100 percent and offers four different levels of premiums and copays. This plan can also be linked to health savings accounts.

Individual Health Insurance Plans With Options

HSAs are available too!
These allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars and use them to pay for medical costs. These accounts are tax-deductible, and the amount rolls over each year. Therefore, you’ll never lose any money you’ve put in. If your insurance plan carries a high deductible, HSAs can help.

Catastrophic Coverage Health plans are for individuals under the age of 30. The premium for these plans is very low, but the out-of-pocket expenses may be higher, and they only cover three PCP visits per year before the deducible is met.

Child Only Coverage allows uninsured parents to give coverage to their children under the age of 18. It covers vaccines, check-ups, and prescription drugs, as well as portions of emergency and major medical event costs.

Short Term Insurance is just as it sounds; it can be purchased for a certain period of coverage. It’s meant to be used as a temporary insurance plan until the policyholder can find another option. Please also keep in mind that these plans do not satisfy the minimum essential coverage requirement of the ADA, so you would be subject to the Individual Mandate Penalty.
